Hi, I'm Taz Bruce

I'm a platform engineer based in New Zealand. I spend my days building the golden paths, internal platforms and tooling that make the right way the easy way for developers, and this site is where I write about how it all fits together.

What I believe

A platform is a product, and its users are developers. That one shift changes everything about how you build it: you lead with empathy for the people consuming it, you pave the golden path so the safe choice is also the fastest one, and you measure yourself on whether you got out of their way. A platform team should be a force multiplier for every other team, not a gate they have to queue at.

What I write about

Developer experience and golden paths, internal developer platforms and portals (Backstage and friends), CI/CD, control planes and the infrastructure as code (Kubernetes, Terraform, Pulumi, Crossplane) that underpins it. Expect practical notes from real work rather than theory, and a strong bias toward automation, simplicity and continuous improvement.
